Mortgage Rate Fall Keeps Builders Up
The National Association of Home Builder's Index measuring industry confidence slipped from 68 to 67 last month but still indicates a positive market outlook since the reading is above 50. The association's chief economist, David Seiders, attributes builder optimism to low mortgage rates, rapid price appreciation, household growth, and the rebounding economy. Housing starts likely rose from an annual pace of 1.967 million in May to 1.994 million in June, but experts concur that higher interest rates eventually will put a damper on demand.
